The Clock of Life by Nancy Klann-Moren is a must-read. The story is a reminder of a significant time in history when American protests changed the status quo. The author artfully ties together two major events-the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War-with an interesting Southern narrator, Jason Lee, who struggles to come of age while haunted by the past, and finds his voice even though thwarted by the realities of injustice and inequality.
